The development of the new mind (getting back to our true self like when we were babies) this is why we practice qigong. We can still access the old system to run our daily lives but it is out there in the distance away from our “new mind”. Emotions can, if we take them in adversely affect the development of the new mind – but if we return to our new mind and keep it “clear, clean and bright” we can handle emotions without having them affect our new mind – Zou Ping at the Hexianju qigong centre in China gave the example of the mirror in the empty room – nothing there until we stand before it and we see ourselves. But once we leave the room the mirror has nothing – like no emotions.
