She is currently a Professor of Psychology at Saybrook Institute, San Francisco. Jeanne co-chaired the mind/body interventions ad hoc advisory panel and the Research Technologies Conference of the Office of Alternative Medicine, and was a member of the Advisory Board, Unconventional Cancer Treatments Study Group, Office of Technology Assessment, U.S. Congress. Jeanne has authored over 100 papers and five books. Imagery in Healing is critically acclaimed as a classic in the field of mind/body studies, and Woman as Healer is described as a ground breaking work, surveying the activities of women from prehistoric times to the present. ![]() Her awards include Healer of the Year and in April 2001, she was featured in Time Magazine as one of the six innovators of alternative and complementary medicine for the coming century. Dr. Achterberg was the Director of Research at North Hawaii Community Hospital, with the responsibility to study prayer and healing, and develop an innovative cancer aftercare program on the Healing Island. Karin Whitney Cooke RN, CCRC and certified by the National Acupuncture Association: co-founder of Kokolulu Farm and Retreat Center and Research Coordinator/co-author with Dr. Jeanne Achterberg on the research at North Hawaii Community Hospital on distant intentionality and healing. Karin also worked with Dr. Achterberg to develop an innovative cancer aftercare program on the Healing Island. Experienced in all areas of health care including both mainstream medical and alternative research and modalities for more than 30 years, she places emphasis on mind/body healing and the link between negative emotions, toxins and disease and non-invasive ways to overcome these elements and recover wellness. Additionally, Karin is a cancer survivor and brings that healing experience into her personal connections with others on their healing journey. Lew Whitney M.Ed. S.H.: co-founder of Kokolulu, Lew has extensive professional background as teacher, counselor and mediator, working with private industry, government agencies, schools, families, and individuals. With his wife, Karin, he shares a deep commitment and belief in our power to heal, the importance of noninvasive healing modalities and the balance between body, mind and spirit. He is a certified Chinese Qigong instructor and practitioner (Shen Han and Shen Shan Therapy). After more than 10 years of studying with Grand Master Zhang in China, The Kokolulu Farm & Retreat Center is the only authorized Zhong Guo Hui Gong (Chinese Wisdom Qigong) Therapy Center outside of China.
